Police

Roles and Responsibilities

When a 999/911 call is made to the police, if need be a telephone adviser will send out emergency services. The first attending officer at the scene will arrive at the scene and be the first to attend to the victims of the crime if there are any present. When other officers arrive at the scene firstly they will make sure that the crime scene is secure if not already done so by the first attending officer. The scene is corned off using large amounts of tape in order for all evidence to be collected by scene of crime officers before the public contaminate the crime scene. Once checking and confirming that the scene is secure the police officers will begin to start interviewing any witnesses at the crime scene. This included taking a witness statement at the scene or in some cases taking the witness to the local police station in order to carry out their interview further.

The O.J. Simpson Case

In the murder case of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, when police arrived their care to the crime scene was unprofessional. Police Officers were walking all over the scene through the blood of from the victims and possibly the suspects. This meant that any bloody footprints that were created during the struggle between Goldman and the suspect were now destroyed due to the contamination from the officers at the scene. Also no officers at the scene cared to mention that a common approach was not set up by the First Attending Officer, Robert Riske, which lead to more contamination from emergency services when they arrived. However Police Officers did fulfill there responsibility t interview witness and take statements from neighbours and the general public who were around the scene at the time of the murders.
