Identifying patterns and links

When a crime has been committed investigators look further in to the crime ton see if there is any pattern which the crime that can be linked to other recent crimes. Fore example in the case of a murder, if the cause of death is by the slashing of the throat and recent murder have occurred with the same cause of death, these murders can be linked together as they occur the same pattern (the cause of death). Another pattern that can link crimes together is if there is a signature, for example this can be present through a form of documentation such as a letter or graffiti. If similar signature appear on more than one crime the crimes can be linked together to see if the same suspect has committed both crimes.

The O.J. Simpson Case

In the case of the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, there was no pattern or signature left at the crime scene in order to link the murder to another recent crime. This was because the murder was very distinctive that it was personal.
