Incident Room

When a serious crime has occurred, within the local area of the crime an on-site facility base is set up in order for the Major Incident Team (MIT) to carry out specific work related to the case. The MIT are dedicated and trained staff who are specifically working on the procedures regarding the crime that has occurred. An incident room is set up in order for the police to keep the operation occurring in one place, making it a lot easier to co-ordinate with different parts of the team investigating the crime. The incident room is also the location where witness statements are recorded and phone calls regarding information of the case from the public are taken care of.

The O.J. Simpson Case

In the murder case of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, as protocol a incident room should have been set up. As this was a case that was widely spread in the media, an incident room would have been the location that all witness statements should have been taken in a professional environment. Phone calls relating to the crime with information should have been transferred to this location so that all the information regarding the murder was all located within one area. However an incident room was not set up therefore there was much miss-communication between authority figures. This lead to higher authority members not being informed off certain information and reports not being correctly written. If an incident room had been set up for this murder investigation, the transition of information would have been a lot more efficient and professional.
