Process of elimination

In order to eliminate a suspect from a crime the potential suspect is firstly interviewed. Other factors can also be used in order to eliminate any suspects, this could be evidence such as DNA which is found at the crime scene which can than be taken to an evidence lab which is ten analysed by specialists. Once the results are back from their tests this information would then be given to authorities which could than determine whether a potential suspect has committed the crime or whether then can be released from custody. Other evidence such as witness statements can also back up forensic evidence that has been collected, as eye witnesses will state what they have scene and heard at the time of the crime. This could potentially lead to an what a suspect looked like who if anything suspicious was going on in the area around the time the crime was committed. Surveillance such as CCTV can also help to eliminate any potential suspects to a crime, If the suspect is caught on camera, authorities will be able to take further investigation as they will already have a clear image of who they are looking for.

The O.J. Simpson Case

After the final trial of the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, O.J.Simpson was found not guilty. There was a lot of evidence which pointed towards O.J.Simpson as guilty such as a pair of O.J.Simpsons socks were found with Nicole Simpsons blood on, the blood of Nicole Simpson, Ronald Goldman and O.J.Simpsons blood was found within his car, African-American hair fibers were found upon the body of Ronald Goldman and the missing glove was found on Simpson's property. One of the reasons for this still not prosecuting O.J.Simpson as guilt was mainly due to the technical vocabulary present in court which the jury was unable to comprehend. Yet the main factor was the lack of evidence correctly collected due to the dis-organisation and lack of professional care towards the crime scene. Due to such contamination within the crime scene this also brought doubt upon the DNA testimony evidence that was given in court. Another factor that effected the result of the trail accusing O.J.Simpson of murder was detective Mark Furham, he was questioned on whether Furham tampered or planted with any evidence in order to make sure that Simpson would be found guilty for these murders. An example of this is when Furham turned up to O.J.Simpson house after the murder in order to question him. Furham jumped over a wall a found blood and the 'missing' glove. Ad Furham did not have a warrant to enter the premises of O.J.Simpson's property this evidence was not allowed to be used in court. Yet Furham was also known to have been racist on camera which also gives Furham incentive to plant evidence leading to a guilty O.J.Simpson. Another example of O.J.Simpson trying to be framed was by the prosecution, in court O.J.Simpsons lawyer, Johnnie Cochran pretty much dared the prosecution to have Simpson try on the glove. Once demonstrated it was proved that O.J.Simpson's hand did not fit in to the glove at all. However, this could have been due to the glove having to be frozen numerous times to keep preserved and also Simpson wore a latex glove on underneath which would have made the glove harder to get on. However, the glove did not fit and the prosecutions main piece of evidence, the glove, was again further compromised.
